Leonora Carrington was a prolific Mexican surrealist in the 1940s. As an artist, her output included paintings and novels, all of them strange and dreamlike.
And now in honor of her 101st anniversary at Casa del Tiempo in Mexico City, her son Pablo Weisz has commissioned the GIF’s of her magical paintings.
Carrington’s work was influenced by figures like Sigmund Freud and , of course, the surrealist movement blossoming at the time.
” I painted for myself ” she said of her work” I never believed anyone would exhibit or buy my work.”
